'As there is a constant flow of light...' RAYGUN, 249 Margaret Street, is showing an installation by Paris-based artist Richard van der Aa. The exhibition 'As there is a constant flow of light...' was prepared specifically for the Toowoomba space and is a series of black and white paintings on aluminium composite panels. The works, devoid of imagery, are oval, round, and rectangular, resembling blank mirrors of non-reflection. On the white walls, however, the blurred edges seem to vibrate, creating visual illusions of spinning auras. The implied flow of light becomes metaphorical, an illumination that is ethereal, almost spiritual, in which space and time hover on the edge of an altered reality. Sandy Pottinger, 2014 |
